The 2021 ASU Cloud Scholar Program sponsored by the University Technology Office (UTO) is designed to provide hands-on cloud experience and personal development and networking opportunities for participants while helping solve local community challenges with solution based hackathons occurring in summer and fall 2021.
The program is open to first-year students enrolled at the four Phoenix metro ASU campuses for fall 2021. Fall hackathon winners must enroll in Spring 2022 courses to be eligible for all prizes.
Open enrollment will begin the first week of December.
Kickoff will take place in mid-February 2021.
Closing ceremonies will take place during the November 2021 Hackathon.
Specific dates and times for events will be provided on a rolling basis throughout the program.
Typically, each session will run for one hour and will be offered multiple dates and times for Cloud Scholars to hone their cloud knowledge and soft skills. Hackathons will generally require several hours over a 1-3 day period.
The program curriculum offers a rich blend of cloud based technology training and soft skill development including: Emerging trends such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), Natural Language Processing (NLP) Cloud Architecture, Security and Best Practices and the AWS services available today in these various fields. not sure what those are and how they would apply to your major? That's okay, we will teach you how these concepts apply to your chosen career path.
Yes! ASU Cloud Scholars will receive hands on training including complementary AWS cloud credits to build cloud infrastructure and services in their own account. Participants will receive end-to-end instruction on setting up their account, best practices for using AWS services and advanced methods for utilizing the capabilities of services like AWS EC2, S3, IAM and many more.
The ASU Cloud Scholar program is committed to providing a wealth of learning experiences for participants not only around cloud solutions but also in support of their personal and professional development heading into their first year in college. The ASU Cloud Scholar program will provide unique opportunities for collaboration and networking, training events, and hackathons. Students will also gain exposure to ASU courses, technologies such as Zoom, Slack and Canvas and receive personalized support along the way.
Participation in ASU Cloud Scholars program is complementary for those who meet the minimum qualifications due to the support of the ASU Technology Office and Amazon Web Services.
Participants must first-year students enrolled at one of the four Phoenix metro ASU campuses for fall 2021. Program participants will maintain good academic and ethical standings within the University to remain eligible for the program. Failure to comply with these standards may result in expulsion or suspension from ACS.
Yes! The winning team for the November 2021 cloud hackathon will receive a scholarship as well as an all expense paid trip to the AWS Seattle headquarters (trip dependent on travel restrictions related to COVID)
The team who created the ideas own the product and IP. We recommend making code open source to the team and the community but this is not required for participation.
